| Equanimity is the unshakability of the heart in the face of all conditions and experiences. It embodies depth and spaciousness, fearlessness, responsiveness, and a natural compassion, rooted in virtue and insight. It is a natural capacity of the human heart — a home always available for us to return to.
The Buddha pointed to how the heart is easily spun by the eight worldly conditions that “spin the world”: “gain and loss, status and disgrace, censure and praise, pleasure and pain”. He invites us to meet them with wisdom, so that freedom and equanimity can grow, the spinning can relax, and wider, truer possibilities can open.
In this short retreat, supported by practice, community, and the teachings of the Buddha, we meditate to cultivate kindness, a wide and steady heart, and wisdom — allowing the heart to settle and incline toward freedom. |
