2021-01-12 Equanimity and Loving Our Enemies within the Framework of the Four Brahmaviharas 59:04
Kaira Jewel Lingo
The talk begins with an introduction to the Four Brahmaviharas and an exploration of how they are distinct (drawing on Ven. Analayo's sun simile). We then explore what equanimity is and how it supports metta when it comes to keeping our hearts open to those we find difficult. We also explore how equanimity helps us to stand up for what we believe in. The talk ends with a song based on a Thich Nhat Hanh poem about how to face injustice and hatred and still continue on.

2021-01-12 Untangling the Heart through Equanimity 44:34
Ajahn Sucitto
Place attention on themes that hold the mind and heart steady, using body to anchor the tangle of reactivity. Heart (citta) can then step back from phenomena and return to its own center that is knowing, equanimous, open. Investigation and handling of the somatic and emotional effects, rather than the topics, lead out of the tangle.

2021-01-11 Of Donkeys and Riptides 50:32
Ajahn Sucitto
When citta is collected in itself, it can begin to review the aspects of its experience that overwhelm and bind it, aspects not sensed or felt before. Train attention to go lightly, slow down, and open awareness to these unknown places. Fortify the citta with the rich energy of goodwill and recollections that warm the heart.

2021-01-10 Our Training in Cultivating Metta: An Overview 55:07
Donald Rothberg
Practicing metta is an ancient vocation in which we incline toward metta, toward a warm, expansive friendliness, each moment. In doing so, we also come to see what gets in the way of metta. A metta retreat offers us a focused period of training, helping us then to bring our metta more into our formal practice, our daily lives, and a world deeply in need of metta. Yet there are challenges in metta practice. We also identify a number of these challenges, and how responses to the challenges point to some of the fundamental ways that training in metta transforms us.

2021-01-10 Opening out of Reactivity 50:36
Ajahn Sucitto
We are encouraged to investigate the region of feeling, perception and reaction. By creating space before the reactivity, citta has the choice to go down the same path of agitation or settle back into itself. Develop citta’s capacity for this through seasoning the heart to be contented in itself.

2021-01-09 Beyond the Present Moment 64:07
Nathan Glyde
Being present is an essential component of the Dharma path. It feels good to bring body, heart, mind, attention, consciousness, all together in the present moment. But being present is not the goal of the Dharma. (Guided meditation and Dharma reflection from Gaia House's Online Dharma Hall)
