2019-03-19 Freely Engaging 55:35
Martin Aylward
These talks build on one another and work well as a series. Building on and referring to the previous talks on the retreat, these reflexions serve as an invitation to reflect on our engagement with the world. Reflections draw on a full and free engagement with thought, speech and action for showing up amidst the turbulence and uncertainty of the world we live in.

2019-03-18 Practicing to Investigate Anatta (Not-Self) (Retreat at Spirit Rock) 60:24
Donald Rothberg
After a brief overview of the “three ways of seeing that liberate” (into anicca, dukkha, and anatta, or impermanence, reactivity or suffering, and not-self), and how to practice investigating anicca and dukkha, we explore a practical way to understand and investigate anatta or not-self. We focus on two ways of investigation: (1) noticing when the sense of self is “thick,” and studying it; and (2) learning in a number of ways to be with the flow of experience with less or little or no sense of self, as we “thin” the self.

2019-03-18 Freely Allowing 40:53
Martin Aylward
These talks build on one another and work well as a series. Dharma practice is an invitation, and training, in meeting experience spaciously and graciously. These reflections unpack what that means, pointing to the inherently spacious nature of awareness, and the free heart’s capacity to hold experience tenderly.

2019-03-17 Freely Knowing 46:55
Martin Aylward
These talks build on one another and work well as a series. This talk looks at the inherently knowing nature of mind. Martin looks at the way we get stuck in knowledge, or knowing about, and generate anxiety and a sense of deficiency about not knowing. He invites us beyond conventional knowing into non-conceptual awareness, and the direct knowing of whatever is happening.

2019-03-17 Right Understanding (Retreat at Spirit Rock) 60:57
Oren Jay Sofer
For the practice to be effective we must integrate the proper understanding, known as "Right View." This talk explores right view in three ways: as a foundation for the practice through understanding our everyday life, as a view of all events as a natural unfolding of causes and conditions, and as the liberating understanding of the Four Noble Truths.

2019-03-16 Freely Abiding 50:01
Martin Aylward
These talks build on one another and work well as a series. In this talk Martin explores the capacity to inhabit experience, to be with experience from the inside; to abide in the midst of what is happening. The talk uses the storm that is raging outside the hall as an example of sitting steadily in the midst of turbulence, and all that swirls around our attention.

Tara Brach
The practice of visualizing and feeling a smile spreading through the body helps us access the natural tenderness and openness of our being. This meditation guides us in the smile-down, and then invites a full opening and resting in openhearted presence. We close by bringing that awake heart to an area of difficulty in our life.

This two part series explores how we regularly leave our body and skim life’s surface in a mental trance, and the ways we can train our attention to come home again. We look at working with physical and emotional pain, and the gifts of love, wisdom, creativity and aliveness that arise as we learn to fully inhabit these living forms and all our senses with awareness.

2019-03-13 Cycles of Deepening Insight Practice (Retreat at Spirit Rock) 61:00
Heather Sundberg
This Talk explores how deepening stages of Insight practice lead to awakening. Beginning with the ground of Sila (ethical conduct), supporting the development of Samadhi (concentration) which provides the power & pliancy of mind for Panna (seeing clearly) practice. The Three Characteristics (impermanence, unsatisfactoriness, not self) are explored, as well as working with cycles of purification. With continuous practice a new cycle into mature Equanimity can emerge as a jumping off point to further awakening.
