2018-10-07 Worrier Pose – Finding Freedom from the Body of Fear 59:35
Tara Brach
While fear is a natural part of our make up, many of us suffering when the “on” button gets jammed. This talk looks at how our fears generate habitual patterns of physical tension, anxious thinking, emotions and behaviors; and how this constellation prevents us from inhabiting our full wisdom and love. We then explore two interrelated pathways of healing—unconditional presence, and resourcing, or cultivating access to safety and belonging (from the 2018 IMCW Fall Retreat).

2018-10-07 Vipassana or Insight Meditation and Instruction: A Path of Practice from Retreat 31:15
Tara Brach
Vipassana, also known as insight meditation, is training in bringing a clear mindful attention to our moment to moment experience. We begin by relaxing through the body and then resting attention with the breath – or some other sensory anchor – and allowing the mind to settle. Then we open to whatever is predominant or calling our attention – sensations, emotions, sounds – meeting each arising experience with a clear, kind attention. The gift of this process is discovering balance in the midst of the changing flow, and gaining deep insight into the nature of reality.

2018-10-07 The Dharma and the Drama 43:18
Martin Aylward
Martin explores the meaning of dharma as Nature. What would it be like to meet all our experience as natural? To let in all that arises so as to meet and explore the whole of experience. And what of the drama that we generate? Maybe, the more we can make room for our inner dramas, the less hold they might have over us.

2018-10-05 Day Four, Guided Self-Compassion across the lifespan, from childhood to old age. (Retreat at Spirit Rock) 44:04
Alisa Dennis
Can we travel into our past and into our future through the power of our intention and the magnetic pulse of our hearts? Maybe? And what’s wrong with living in the Maybe Place? This guided meditation supports us in deepening the capacity of our hearts to listen deeply and at ease to our own pain and suffering across our lives. Widening the heart's capacity to hold our own grief and sorrow will strengthen our capacity to turn toward, be with, and then respond thoughtfully to the pain of the world.

The Third Precept is: I undertake the training precept to refrain for sexual misconduct. After Christine Blasey Ford's moving testimony at the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, this talk explores this cultural moment together. The impact of sexual assault, importance of courage, especially of women, to speak the truth in the face of animosity and criticism and the power of fierce compassion are discussed.

2018-10-03 Being a Scientist of Our Own Mind (Retreat at Spirit Rock) 51:15
Nikki Mirghafori
Our magnificent heart-mind-body is our laboratory. First, a deep respect and humility for how little we know (specifically about the brain) is to be embraced, in order not to reduce the totality of our amazing humanity to materialist neuralism, especially with simplified or outdated models (e.g., the Triune theory with reptilian brain, etc.). Also essential are a scientific “holy” curiosity (also known as the factor of investigation) and gentle perseverance. Finally, a true scientist is inspired by awe and the mystery of the ineffable, not just to “get a prize” — or, as it applies to our meditation practice, simply undertaking it for the sake of self improvement.

2018-10-03 Meditation: Coming Home with the Breath 14:48
Tara Brach
Our breath is always available as a pathway back to presence. This simple meditation guides us to relax and awaken in the body, and then establishes the breath as a home base for our attention. Our practice is to notice when the mind becomes distracted, and gently return to our breath and senses. This helps the mind to become increasingly settled, calm and clear. We close with a short heart blessing.

2018-10-03 Part 1: Rewiring for Happiness and Freedom 51:22
Tara Brach
The Buddha said, “I would not be teaching this (a path of awakening) if genuine happiness and freedom were not possible.” While this is our potential, we each have deep conditioning to get stuck in feelings of fear, deficiency and separation from others. These talks explore the two interdependent pathways of undoing the conditioning that blocks our potential. In Part I we will look at how we can intentionally arouse states of wellbeing, and with practice, develop them into ongoing traits that bring presence and joy to our lives. In Part II, we will investigate how to cultivate an unconditional presence, and the radical acceptance and love, that are the grounds of true happiness and inner freedom.
